Running Chics

Hello Happy Runner Folks!

I am absolutely honored to be bringing you this review/giveaway today. Thrilled. Over the moon, even. Running Chics is a company I've been stalking for well over 6 months now and the fact that they were generous enough to offer us this chance to test their gear, well it just proves that I have good taste when it comes to my stalking.

Running Chics is a company founded by Andrea Reynolds and Kristen Moreland. Two very busy mothers with a passion for running and the idea of a little running chick. Their design graces all their clothes which happen to be of absolute top quality. I was lucky enough to test out their alo Hoodie. A performance piece that delivers.

My package arrived with a cute tote (which I have already used a dozen times), my review piece, and a sticker.

I had to wait about a week to test out my hoodie. The temps that morning were around 40 degrees so I wore it single, no layering. I didn't overheat and the fabric was super comfortable. The hood didn't pull on me and everything stayed put nicely. No chafing or bunching. I love the color and the design on the back.

I was just really cold in this last picture, I swear I wasn't dancing!

This piece got another test when I wore it with some capris to coach my son's soccer game and run errands. I got a few compliments on it and I was happy to share the source with a couple of fellow moms and athletic types. I've washed it three times now and it doesn't show any wear.

My hoodie is a medium. I think I could wear a small but was ordering big to be on the safe side. I have a pretty big bust, and the fabric is sort of stretchy so it all worked out. This way I will be able to layer when the temps really drop.

The fact that Running Chics is out of Missouri makes them even nearer and dearer to my heart. That is my home state. Lots of good things to come out of Missouri!

Want to win your very own hoodie?

Of course you do.

Visit the Running Chics site and leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite piece is.

The Winner and A Hill That Got Me

Okay without further delay the winner of the vegan cookbook is.......

T!  I've emailed her and as long as she gets back with me soon the book is hers!

I conquered a solo eight mile run Friday morning. My running partner was out of town and I knew I could do it, even though my head was not in it. Physically I was feeling fine. Mentally I wasn't looking forward to almost and hour and a half of solitude.

You get used to having someone to log the miles with. When I first began running, I was always by myself. I honestly don't think I have ever been that determined in my entire life. I was going to run those three miles if it killed me. That was something that I needed to accomplish on my own. I didn't have any friends who ran. I was also too intimidated to run with the very few people I knew of that were runners. It took me a long long time to build up enough base to run with Phyllis. I like that our pace is about the same, that our schedules our pretty flexible, and that we never run out of things to talk about. Not having Phyllis on a run is like forgetting my Garmin or my water. She is kind of like a talisman now.

I made it through the 8.06 miles in 1:19:19. I just shut down my brain, tuned into the music, and pounded the pavement. I attempted a hill that was so steep and so long that your knees nearly hit your chin. I walked twice on that sucker... and I never...ever...walk hills. I'm going to try it again soon, because its just a hill and I might as well get over it.

Another giveaway coming soon!

Yuck Yuck Yuck!

That is how I feel today.

I am totally paying for all that mindless binge eating. My tummy is torn up.

I had no energy on my run this morning. I felt so heavy! Phyllis and I completed 5.5 miles but I just had nothing else in me past that. That is proof positive that you are what you eat. I ate junk, I feel like junk. I've been laying around moaning and groaning all day wishing I could take it all back.

When I got home from my run I was hurting and in a foul mood. But not for long!!! Last week I found out that I won a terrific giveaway from RunMom at Secrets of a Running Mom.

And my brand new RoadID Elite came in the mail today!

Oh happy day! I love getting new running gear, especially after a not so happy run. I am in love with this company and have been wanting a RoadID since I first found out about them.

Thank you RunMom! Thank you RoadID guys!

Smooth Oh So Smooth

Yum! This smoothie got its color from fresh blackberries.

I like my smoothies simple and single serve. I'm usually the only one around to drink them and I am a calorie counter so I make it easy on myself. The smoothie above was a mix of banana, strawberries, blackberries, honey, and skim milk. The past few mornings I've been craving something a little more well....chocolately, so I came up with my easy peasy Chocolate Banana Almond Butter Smoothie.

1/2 banana
3 whole strawberries
1 tbsp natural almond butter
1 tbsp Nesquick powder (only 30 calories!)
1/2 cup skim milk
blend for 3 minutes, add a few ice cubes and blend until smooth! So good.

Meet Bill Duer

This is Mr. Bill Duer.

I met him at the Lum N Abner 5K on Saturday. He's a local to our small town and after my mother told me a little about him, I knew I needed to shake his hand. And now, I want to tell you a little about him.

Mr. Duer is 76 years young. He has ran over 100 marathons. He says he stopped counting after 100 but he thinks the exact number is somewhere around 110. He once ran a marathon a month for 68 consecutive months. He also states that he has been running every single day for 23 years. He has it all logged and has never suffered an injury.

This man exudes such an air of calmness and sureness. His pace was steady, never faltering and he barely looked winded at the end of the 3.1 miles. And why would he be? A man who runs marathons with the regularity of him has no reason to be tired after a 5K.

I Googled Mr. Duer and found a few references to him in articles and race results, but I am convinced this man has not gotten the recognition or coverage he deserves. He is a true Marathon Man and doesn't seem to be showing any signs of stopping. The fact that he resides in our very own Mena, Arkansas and runs local roads every day just makes it that much sweeter.

On Eating

I like to think I eat pretty well. Especially well compared to how I used to eat. No, I don't eat entirely clean or always get in the recommended amount of fruits & veggies daily. And I have my slip ups. I love chocolate. What can I say? Oh and cheesecake. Ummm, and ice cream. Yikes. Let's just say I have a sweet tooth and leave it at that.

I want to share a few of my favorite foods that have been truly beneficial to me in my battle against the bulge. You might not agree with all my choices but these have worked for me and kept me satisfied and happy. We are all different, our bodies are all different machines and our food is our fuel. It is so true that what we put into our body is what we get out.

Clif Bar Minis. I love these because they are only 100 calories. I throw
one in my purse and eat it right after I run. This is about the most
prepackaged processed food I eat and it is all organic so not too shabby.

I eat a ton of eggs. Mainly just the white but I always keep hard boiled ones
for a snack and almost always have egg whites at breakfast.

Asparagus is so yummy and abundant at the store right now.
Drizzle with olive oil, lemon juice and sea salt. Roast in oven at 400
degrees for 10 minutes.

Avocados are a necessity in my house. Stella and I eat these
at least every few days. The boys haven't quite caught the 'cado bug but
we're working on them. I put these in my salad, fajitas, plain on the side, or
whip up some guac. These are full of the healthy kind of fat.

I also eat grilled chicken once a day. By itself or as part of a salad.

Spinach=love. I heart spinach. It goes in my eggs,
in my salads, on my sandwiches, or as a side.

I finally started buying fresh pineapples and the whole
family is enjoying their deliciousness at least twice a week now.
In fact, I'm about to go cut one up right now.

Strawberries also = love. I eat strawberries every single day.

A few other things I keep on hand all the time:
  • lean round steak (Red meat, I know. but I'm a carnivore, I can't help it.)
  • almonds
  • olive oil
  • peeled, deveined shrimp
  • broccoli
  • mushrooms
  • peppers
  • skim milk
  • low fat string cheese
  • corn tortillas
  • some type of sandwich thin
  • romaine lettuce
  • salsa
  • lean ham
I cook three meals a day. Every single day. On the rare day we are out at mealtime we try and hit up Subway or an actual restaurant where the options are a little more varied.

For example, this morning I had a Thomas Everything Bagel thin (toasted), with two slices of ham, a slice of cheese, and an egg white on it. With salsa on the side for dipping. A Clif Bar Crunchy Peanut Butter Mini for morning snack. Lunch will be leftover grilled round steak on corn tortillas (2) with lettuce and salsa on top. Pineapple for an afternoon snack. Dinner is grilled chicken breast fajita style on a salad of romaine with avocado and cheddar cheese and salsa as a dressing. I'll probably eat some strawberries after dinner to satisfy that sweet tooth. Oh and in case you didn't notice, I'm having a love affair with salsa. Only 15 calories per 2 tablespoons and it adds so much flavor. I better be careful though and not burn out on such a healthy condiment option.

What do you love to eat?

Coincidentally Jen @ Prior Fat Girl is having a Subway giveaway. Head on over to enter to win one of 3 $10 gift cards.
